Speaker Bio
Elizabeth Brooks is a multi-disciplinary artist whose inspiration from nature translates into work that shows deep affection for vibrant color, natural forms, and curved line. With a Bachelor of Arts in K-12 Art Education, and a Master of Arts in teaching English as a Second Language, she is passionate about finding the intersections between visual art, core content areas, and vocabulary acquisition. As a certified Arts Integration Specialist, she has shared arts integration theory and strategies with educators since 2018. Her arts integration teaching approach is the foundation of her work as a Teaching Artist with primary and middle school students, excitedly seeking the access points for neurodivergent students to obtain core content knowledge through visual arts hands on artmaking experiences. She has presented Arts Integration and STEAM workshops at conferences in both Nevada and Missouri, highlighting interdisciplinary ideas mainly in visual art, science, and math curriculum. Elizabeth's ceramic and oil pastel artworks have been featured at galleries in both Reno, Nevada and St. Louis, Missouri. Most recently, however, she has found great inspiration in the science and art of botanically diverse sourdough bread making. In 2022, Elizabeth was awarded a grant from the Nevada Arts Council to compose a portrait of our local landscape, through the medium of bread. Her interdisciplinary studio is part kitchen, part ceramics studio, and part traditional drawing and painting space located next to the Truckee River near downtown Reno, Nevada.
