Date & Time
Saturday, March 4, 2023, 9:40 AM - 10:40 AM
Laura Smith Fillmore
Description

Educator Laura Smith-Fillmore is joined by Hannah Lansverk, Youth Education Director for Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation as they walk through a high school curriculum unit designed to give teachers a set of resources at the nexus of four cross-cutting concepts in science and art. Centered around the theme of water, students will examine the social, ecological, and cultural values of water. This four-unit lesson zooms outwards from a single atom to a drop of water, to student’s local watersheds, to watersheds in the intermountain west, and finally out to developing a perspective of a skyward star observing the big “blue marble” from space. Finally, students are encouraged to think like bioengineers and wield new media competently as we encourage our students to begin to think about innovative solutions to the clean water crisis.

Designed for high school educators.
